FAQ's

1Who typically invests in forestry?
A Forestry investment attracts both private and institutional investors, including corporations, foundations and pension funds. There has been a significant shift towards private investors in the past ten years where today they now represent 60% of the forestry ownership in the UK is private.
2What are the benefits of a Forestry Investment?
A Forestry investment provides a strong hedge against inflation; it offers real portfolio diversification. It is a tangible asset, and all profits are Tax Free with a minimum risk.
3How does my forestry investment work?
Your freehold forestry plot consists of three assets in one: timber, biomass and land. As the trees mature, their timber volume increases and becomes more valuable. After a rotation of 15 years, the trees are harvested, the timber process and sold.
4I really don’t know anything about Sitka spruce?
You do not need to know a lot about Sitka Spruce to make this a profitable investment for you. Your management company of choice will have all the necessary knowledge and experience to ensure a good development of your timber.
5What are the main markets for timber?
Forest owners benefit from diverse markets. There are seven main markets: construction, packaging, pallets, fencing, panel board, paper and biomass for energy and heat – this last market has led to new competition for the least valuable part of the tree and therefore increased the value of the whole tree to timber purchasers. The grower is not dependent on one market to sell timber to.
6Who owns the land and the trees?
You will own the land and the trees for the length of your investment with Virtue Woodland Forestry. You will receive land title deeds along with a timber ownership certificate detailing the amount of timber per acre.
7What happens when the trees need to be harvested?
Your chosen management company can harvest the trees and then sell them on your behalf, whenever you wish. They will advise you when best to harvest your trees. As you have the freehold title you can then sell your land or make another (much cheaper) rotation.
8Who manages the forestry?
Experienced local woodland managers. They provide ongoing budgets for the development of the forest, which are reviewed by Virtue Forestry Management and amended as necessary to ensure that the forestry investment achieves the best possible return, tax free.
9Can I visit the plantations?
Yes! You are welcome to visit the plantations at any time. We would be more than pleased to help you with tips and directions for your journey.
